Fall Weather: Vancouver

Weather for a Vancouver autumn kicks in gradually. September is usually quite warm and sunny, but by October, it's chilly and showery. Temperatures range from an average of 18°C (65°F) in September to 9°C (47°F) in November. Fall colour in Vancouver. The weather was great.
Vancouver's trees show their autumn colours after a touch of frost. The tree-lined streets become a riot of yellow, orange and red. Especially when a wind-storm hits (usually once or twice in the fall). Most folks start spending more time inside. Fall activities start up with theatre openings, new museum and gallery exhibits and hockey season starting. Consider the Vancouver Art Gallery (the “only” reason to go is for the Emily Carr usually permanent exhibit on the top floor – call to make sure it’s there) and the Vancouver Maritime Museum (home to the St Roch, the first ship to completely circumnavigate North America), to name two autumn favourites. A lovely fall day at VanDusen Garden. At the back of the 55-acre park, we found a secluded pond.
Fall is also a wonderful time to traverse the almost-deserted Sea Wall and splash through puddles on quiet streets in residential Vancouver. When the weather is nice, you fully enjoy every bit of light and sunshine that pops through the clouds in the shortening days of a northern fall. I like to be out in the wind and the rain, provided I have somewhere to dry off afterwards! Things to remember: that umbrella again, long pants, boots, a sweater and a jacket.
The fall can get a bit dark and dreary, but there’s snow on them there hills in a Vancouver winter... Hiding from a fall shower beneath an autumnal red maple tree. Weather in Vancouver can be unpredictable.
