Be one with the water in a kayak and explore the city from a different angle with a rental from Granville Island or Jericho Beach. Or explore the isolated beaches and forests from nearby Deep Cove or Bowen Island.  Take a sailboat out and challenge the winds of the Pacific Ocean. Check out a lunch cruise to Indian Arm or a harbor cruise complete with a guide pointing out the highlights of the city. Choose a whale-watching tour to see Orcas (killer whales) in their natural habitat. Would you rather explore under the water around Vancouver? In the Snowy Winter Snow sports are on the top of the winter Vancouver things to do list.The mild Vancouver winter is only in the city. Come winter there's snow on them hills! And the snow-boarders, downhill and cross-country skiers, snowshoe-ers and toboggan-ers all head to the mountains. Enjoying a snowy day of snowshoeing on Grouse Mountain. 2010 Winter Olympic site Whistler is the best known with the highest peaks: Blackcomb Mountain and Whistler Mountain. Nearer to Vancouver you'll find Cypress, Grouse and Seymour Mountains. All offer you a snow-filled wonderland in the winter.
Sunshine, Summer & the Outdoors Come summer, the same mountains offer exciting hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing. In any season there's Vancouver things to do. Hike through the mountains or choose a flatter wilderness park. Vancouver is gorgeous. Bird-watching and wildlife-viewing opportunities abound.
The Vancouver beaches are a haven when the sun is out. Go swimming to cool off or play beach volleyball. Explore along the shoreline and find small crabs and pretty shells. Then watch the sun set. Vancouver is also known around the world for amazing mountain bike trails.
Get your thrills on the mountains nearby in the summer when the snow is melted. Or try North Vancouver, great year-round, provided you like mud on your bike! If you'd prefer a more sedate cycle experience, take a touring bike and ride through the city. Jen and I starting a ride along the Fraser River in Port Coquitlam. And if golf is your thing, there's a golf course near you. From Whistler to Richmond and UBC in west Vancouver to Pitt Meadows, there are world class courses to challenge your skill. Then relax and check out the beautiful scenic views.
When It RainsIf you really want to shut out that stunning Vancouver scenery and head indoors... There are many rainy-day Vancouver things to do. Brave the raindrops outside at undercover gardens or check out the indoor options.
An ominous cloud sends me scurrying into the Bloedel Conservatory. And then there's more things to do in Vancouver when it rains. These activities are great when the sun is shining too! And there's lots of interesting, unique and fun Vancouver shopping too.
