Vancouver BC: Weather in the Spring

A spring in Vancouver, BC? The weather starts to turn warm and it tends to be showery, averaging around 10 to 16°C (50 to 60°F). I start biking in shorts in March, but most people wait until much later in April. For walking about town, I recommend an umbrella, long pants and a lightweight jacket. Not quite sandal season yet. On a spring bike ride along the sea wall, looking north across False Creek. The weather is variable (that means frequent rain showers!) but spring is my favourite season in Vancouver, BC. The weather is not too hot or too busy with tourists, most days are good days.
The spring flowers and cherry blossoms come out in early March. The blossoms last until the end of April and overlap with daffodils, tulips and crocuses popping up everywhere. Flowers are a-bloom throughout the city. Queen Elizabeth Park is a visual treat at this time of year with formal garden beds full of new flowers. And I always like to take a bike ride through the residential streets of central Vancouver to ride under a white canopy of cherry blossoms. Incidentally, the mountains are still open for skiing into April. An interesting contrast to see spring flowers blooming along the road on your way up to ski.
By May, the weather in Vancouver is quite warm and almost summer. The "May long weekend", the third Monday in May, is when everyone goes camping. And it usually rains. Usually the week prior has been gorgeous, hot and sunny. Everyone is just itching to be outside, and then that first long weekend of summer... is a wash-out. But camping in the rain is fun, isn't it? To be fair, some years, May is beautiful all the way through. Then comes June, and the start of summer...
